Other ID: WF 80-1

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): Marshal Otter

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Location-Elevation: Navigation, Seismics: Boomer, Seismics: Sub Bottom Profiler, Sonar: Sidescan

Scientific Purpose/Goals: The cruise purpose was to make a preliminary high-resolution seismic survey and sidescan sonar survey of the designated stretch of NJ inner continental shelf shoreward of the 10 fm depth since this region has been avoided by deeper-draft oceanographic research vessels. The data will be examined to determine presence and distribution of geologic hazards related to possible petroleum pipeline installation.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Woods Hole, MA

End Port/Location: Woods Hole, MA

Start Date: 1980-06-11

End Date: 1980-06-19

Equipment Used: EG&G 234, ORE 140 transceiver/1036 transducer sub-bottom profiler, Klein 531 sidescan, Northstar 6000 LORAN-C, Single channel hydrophone

Information to be Derived:

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Sidescan sonar data: 796 km; ORE 3.5 kHz data: 880 km; Uniboom data: 888 km.
