Other ID: 80-C-1

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Location: Nueces Estuary, Corpus Christi, Texas, Gulf of Mexico, United States, North America, North Atlantic;

Principal Investigator(s): Charles Stelting

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Seismics: Sub Bottom Profiler, Sonar: Sidescan, Location-Elevation: Navigation

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Determine the salient sub-bottom, bathymetric, and surficial features within Nueces Bay and the lower portion of the Nueces River.

Start Date: 1980-07-11

Start Port/Location:

End Date: 1980-07-13

End Port/Location:

Equipment Used: Raytheon RTT 1000 Seismic System, Klein 531 sidescan, Compass

Information to be Derived:

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: 45 km each of high-resolution, bathymetric, and sidescan data was acquired. Due to a combination of unfamiliarity with sediment types and their effect on resolution and instrumentation difficulties, the quality of high-resolution and bathymetric data ranges from poor to acceptable. The sidescan data is excellent.

Staff: Douglass Owen, Richard E. Sylwester, John West, Neal Lillard, Charles Stelting

Affiliate Staff:

Notes: A very special thanks is extended to Charles Deadmon and James Willingham whose onshore efforts were a great aid to the completion of this cruise.
