Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Sampling: Biology, Sampling: Geology, Sonar: Single Beam, Seismics: Boomer, Seismics: Sub Bottom Profiler, Location-Elevation: Navigation

Scientific Purpose/Goals: 1) Seismic survey of an apparent sand deposit offshore Isabela, Puerto Rico; 2) seismic survey of submarine canyons offshore Guayanilla, Puerto Rico; and 3) surface sediment sampling between Guanica and Guayanilla, Puerto Rico.

Start Port/Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico

End Port/Location: Guayanilla, Puerto Rico

Start Date: 1983-04-07

End Date: 1983-04-17

Equipment Used: 3.5 kHz, Grab sampler, Boomer, Echosounder, Motorola Mini-Ranger III

Information to be Derived:

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: The apparent "sand deposit" seems to be a very thin layer of sand over certain areas and small scattered sand pockets. 135 sediment samples were collected in the Guayanilla-Guanica-Ponce area. Seismic lines: 40 km.
