Data Type(s): Seismics: Boomer, Sonar: Sidescan, Seismics: Air Gun / Water Gun, Sampling: Geology, Location-Elevation: Navigation
Scientific Purpose/Goals: The objectives of cruises 89001 and 89002 were to obtain a baseline data set of high-resolution sidescan sonar imagery, single-channel geophysical profiles (high- resolution) of the shallow sub-bottom, intermediate-penetration 40 cubic inch airgun profiles, and surface sediment samples. The baseline data set was designed to allow us to characterize and understand this shallow segment of the continental margin off San Francisco, and to serve as a preliminary database for subsequent, more detailed and site specific studies.
Vehicle(s):
Start Port/Location: San Francisco, CA
End Port/Location: Redwood City, CA
Start Date: 1989-01-12
End Date: 1989-01-28
Equipment Used: Huntec Hydrosonde Deep-Tow system, Klein 531 sidescan, Air gun, ORE GeoPulse, Van Veen grab sampler, GPS (wh), Loran-C, Del Norte, transponder net
Information to be Derived:
Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Tracklines: 182 (1768 km); Boomer data: 1903 km; 3.5 kHz bathymetry: 1908 km; Gravity: 2641 km; Huntec sidescan: 1905 km; sidescan sonar: 326 km; 2 channel airgun: 59 km; Soutar grab samples: 263.
