Field Activity Details for field activity 1989-002-FA

Other ID: F2-89-NC

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): William Schwab

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Seismics: Boomer, Sonar: Sidescan, Seismics: Air Gun / Water Gun, Sampling: Geology, Location-Elevation: Navigation

Scientific Purpose/Goals: The objectives of cruises 89001 and 89002 were to obtain a baseline data set of high-resolution sidescan sonar imagery, single-channel geophysical profiles (high- resolution) of the shallow sub-bottom, intermediate-penetration 40 cubic inch airgun profiles, and surface sediment samples. The baseline data set was designed to allow us to characterize and understand this shallow segment of the continental margin off San Francisco, and to serve as a preliminary database for subsequent, more detailed and site specific studies.

Vehicle(s):

Start Date: 1989-01-12

Start Port/Location: San Francisco, CA

End Date: 1989-01-28

End Port/Location: Redwood City, CA

Equipment Used: Huntec Hydrosonde Deep-Tow system, Klein 531 sidescan, Air gun, ORE GeoPulse, Grab sampler - Van Veen , GPS (wh), Loran-C, Del Norte, transponder net
