Other ID: F-4-89-NC; CAMP 3-3

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): David A. Cacchione, Bradford Butman

Affiliate Investigator(s): Cheryl Ann Butman - WHOI

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Sampling: Biology, Sampling: Geology, Seismics: Sub Bottom Profiler, Environmental Data: CTD, Sampling: Chemistry, Visual Identification: Ground Truthing, Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sonar: Sidescan, Time Series: Mooring (physical oceanography)

Scientific Purpose/Goals: (a) To detect and measure potential long- or short-term changes in the marine environment adjacent to oil and gas platforms; and (b) to determine whether changes observed in the marine environment during the monitoring period are caused by drilling-related activities or are a product of natural processes. Specific objectives: (1) conduct sidescan surveys at project sites R-8, PJ-1 and R-9; (2) recover two surface guard buoys at each of the above sites; (3) recover 3 subsurface current-meter moorings at the above sites; (4) recover 2 GEOPROBE tripods at R-8 and PJ-1; (5) collect box cores for detailed sediment analyses; and (6) collect hydrographic and suspended matter samples.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Redwood City, CA

End Port/Location: Redwood City, CA

Start Date: 1989-02-21

End Date: 1989-02-28

Equipment Used: Box corer, 3.5 kHz, SBE 9 CTD, GEOPROBE, Mooring tripod, Sidescan sonar, Van Veen grab sampler, Niskin bottle, Loran-C
