Information Specialist(s): Mead Allison

Data Type(s): Sampling: Geology, Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sampling: Biology, Imagery: Video

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Obtain about 25 cores (order of 5 m long) to assist in developing stratigraphy of New York Bight and in interpretation of high-resolution seismic and sidescan sonar observations.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Caven Point, NJ

End Port/Location: Caven Point, NJ

Start Date: 1997-07-04

End Date: 1997-07-12

Equipment Used: Alpine Vibracorer, DGPS, Grab sampler, Video camera - deep sea

Information to be Derived:

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Twenty-three stations were occupied in total. At each site a grab sample and 1-2 minutes of bottom video were collected. Vibracores of 40-485 cm length (7.5 cm diameter) were collected at 17 of the sites.
