Other ID: none

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): David Nichols

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s): David Nichols

Data Type(s): Location-Elevation: Navigation, Seismics: Sub Bottom Profiler, Sonar: Single Beam, Sonar: Sidescan

Scientific Purpose/Goals: To test and evaluate high-resolution seismic techniques in shallow water environments.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Popponessett Bay, MA

End Port/Location: Popponessett Bay, MA

Start Date: 1997-11-21

End Date: 1997-11-26

Equipment Used: DGPS, ORE 140 transceiver/1036 transducer sub-bottom profiler, ODOM 200 kHz depth recorder, Edgetech DF-1000 sidescan sonar

Information to be Derived:

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Hard copy of seismic data only. Sidescan recorded digitally. Shallow water testing proved successfull as sidescan data was recorded at the far ranges on a 50 m scale in an operating depth of 1 m or less of water.

Staff: William Danforth, Barry Irwin, David Nichols, Kenneth F. Parolski

Affiliate Staff:
Mashpee Harbormaster / Town of Mashpee

Notes: Sidescan recorded digitally and not yet processed at time of post-cruise reporting.
