Scientific Purpose/Goals: Collect short cores for Metal Flux Study in order to test gel probes against the centrifuge pore water extraction method. Samples were collected around the long-term Station 8 in the Boston Harbor study. Target position: 42deg 17 min 28.688 sec N, 070 deg 55 min 48.507 sec W. This location is west of the typical Station 8 in order to avoid a concentrated mat of Ampilisca (amphipod) tubes. These tubes make it diffcult to cut the core for pore water studies.

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: 8 short cores were taken by pushing core tube with the fiberglass barrels. Water depth was 20-26 feet, depending on tide height. Camera attached to the core tube was a great help in choosing the initial coring site, for assessing ship swing while on anchor, and for determining how far to push in the core tubes.
