Other ID: none

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): David Twichell

Affiliate Investigator(s): USGS St. Petersburg

Information Specialist(s): David Twichell

Data Type(s): Sampling: Geology, Location-Elevation: Navigation

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Vibracoring in Apalachicola Bay to ground truth seismic data and reconstruct the late Holocene history of the bay.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Apalachicola, FL

End Port/Location: Apalachicola, FL

Start Date: 2007-05-22

End Date: 2007-05-26

Equipment Used: Alpine Vibracorer, GPS (wh)

Information to be Derived: Grain size analysis;Visual core descriptions and age dates;

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Twenty-four vibracores were collected from 23 different stations within Apalachicola Bay. Water depths for the stations ranged from 2.2 to 4.0 m. The core barrels were 6.1 m (20 ft) in length, and the recovered cores ranged from 2.6 m to 5.4 m.
