Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s): Coral Reef Ecosystems Studies - CREST (GX.22.MN00.E3R50.00)

Principal Investigator(s): Ilsa Kuffner

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s): Ilsa Kuffner

Data Type(s): Biological Field Study: Experiments (biological), Environmental Data: Temperature, Imagery: Photo, Location-Elevation: Navigation

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Site visit to coral calcification monitoring stations to measure coral and algal calcification rates

Vehicle(s): Ford F-350 Dually - Silver (GSA)

Start Port/Location: St. Petersburg, FL

End Port/Location: St. Petersburg, FL

Start Date: 2016-11-03

End Date: 2016-12-09

Equipment Used: Settling plates, Sea-Bird Wave and Tide Logger (SBE 26plus), Other, Digital Camera, GPS

Information to be Derived: Mass of calcium carbonate gained per unit time for corals Porites astreoides and Acropora cervicornis and crustose coralline algal communities on nylon tiles. Hourly temperature data for past 6 months.

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Field activity was split into three trips because of weather. Nov 4 - Fowey Rocks Nov 5 - Crocker Reef Nov 10 - Sombrero Reef Dec 6 to Dec 8 - Pulaski Shoal Light (PLS) and Pulaski Shoal West (PLW). During this phase of the trip we set up 10 new blocks at PLW with help from NPS.
