"descript": "This CD-ROM contains copies of the navigation, bathymetry and field sidescan sonar data collected during the U.S. Geological Survey's R\/V CALETA 91-1 cruise. The cruise was conducted during 10-14 June, 1991, and marked the initiation of a major program to be conducted primarily by personnel from Rutgers University to monitor the biology, chemistry and physical processes of this inner shelf setting. The study area was within the area 39d26'N - 39d30'N and 74d13'W - 74d17'W, and covered a 3 by 1.5 nm area on the inner continental shelf offshore of Little Egg Inlet, New Jersey. The purpose of the project was to study the sedimentology and depositional processes of an inner shelf sand ridge offshore of Little Egg Inlet, NJ to understand sand ridge development and how they are affected by modern oceanographic conditions. This cruise marked the initiation of a major program to be conducted primarily by personnel from Rutgers University to monitor the biology, chemistry and physical processes of this inner shelf setting. In light of this program, data from this cruise provide a baseline geologic setting upon which to base the sample design for the rest of the program.",
