Description:
Abstract:
The Remote Sensing Coastal Change Simple Data Service provides timely and long-term access to emergency, provisional, and approved photogrammetric imagery, derivatives, and ancillary data through a web service via HyperText Transfer Protocol to a folder/file structure organized by data collection platform and survey (collection effort) with metadata sufficient to facilitate both human and machine access. Data are acquired, processed, and published using standardized workflows. Each data type added to the service has a peer-reviewed metadata and data review of sample data generated with standardized methods to ensure compliance with U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Fundamental Science Practices (FSP).
Purpose:
This data service supports coastal hazards research, management, and emergency response by providing timely access to photogrammetric imagery and derivatives collected by a variety of data collection platforms (DCPs), processed using documented photogrammetry and machine-learning techniques, and reviewed for quality using standardized procedures. Products for a given DCP include, at a minimum, digital images and/or image products intended for photogrammetric workflows, and may include derivatives and ancillary data, including, but not limited to, processed camera position and pose, camera and lens models, geospatial raster and vector data (for example orthoimagery/digital elevation models/triangulated irregular networks), point clouds, segmented images, and image labels in scalar, vector, and raster formats.
Imagery, derivatives, and ancillary data released through this data service are processed with documented standardized methods, reviewed for quality and accuracy in accordance with USGS Fundamental Science Practices (FSP), and accessed in a folder structure organized by platform, survey, and product, with associated metadata describing data structure and contents. Metadata and data structures are designed to provide access to the data at the most granular level possible to facilitate efficient manual or automated access to only the data needed or queried by users.
