Description:
Abstract:
High-resolution multichannel sparker seismic (MCS) data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in collaboration with the University of Washington (UW) in the summer of 2019 along the Cascadia submarine forearc offshore Oregon and Washington.
Purpose:
Data were acquired to characterize quaternary deformation and sediment dynamics along the central and northern Cascadia margin. A total of 62 tracklines were collected and extend from the nearshore to the deformation front and were spaced between 25 and 50 kilometers apart. This work occurred on UW’s R/V Rachel Carson (UW cruise IDs RC0028 and RC0029). MCS data were collected coincidently with chirp sub-bottom data. These data and information are intended for science researchers, students, policy makers, and general public.

SEG-Y processing was conducted in Shearwater’s Reveal seismic software (https://www.shearwatergeo.com/4/reveal-software) version 10.4.2021. QGIS-LTR (version 3.21, https://www.qgis.org/en/site/) was used to produce the navigation trackline shapefile and preview image.
Data_Quality_Information:
Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
Quality control was conducted during acquisition. Some seismic profiles have gaps in them due to system crashes or intentional shutdowns as required, under terms of our operating permit, to protect marine mammals. Minor swell correction artifacts exist at line starts and ends as well as in areas where seafloor amplitudes are low.
Logical_Consistency_Report:
Quality control was conducted during acquisition and processing to ensure consistency of SEG-Y header navigation and seismic-reflection data that matches bathymetry along the tracklines. Trackline navigation combines SEG-Y line parts into a single-track line (62 tracklines and 141 SEG-Y files, including parts).
Completeness_Report:
Dataset is considered complete for the information presented, as described in the abstract. Users are advised to read the rest of the metadata record carefully for additional details.

Process_Description:
Raw SEG-D format seismic shots were imported into Shearwater Rebeal seismic software for processing. Navigation data were converted to UTM zone 10N and offset geometry was calculated, and common midpoint (CMP) were binned at 3.125-meter intervals. The following processing steps were applied; resample from .25 to .5ms, extend record length for processing, static correction for aux channels containing the outgoing sparker pulse, 50-Hz highpass Butterworth filter, 50-70-900-1000 bandpass filter, designature/deghost with aux channel sparker signature, FK- fitler, renumber CMPs, pick NMO velocities every 500 CMPs and w/ changes in geology, kill noisy channels, amplitude balance, Normal moveout wit picked velocities, static correction, despike, 3 trace median gather filter, stack, kill ranges of missed shots, post-stack time migration at 1450m/s, post-migration spiking deconvolution (for SEG-Y files contained in zip file 2019-024-FA.mcs.dcn.zip only), record length shortened to original record length, water column mute, 50ms bottom mute, 200ms automatic gain control, and output to SEG-Y for zip file.
