Title:
Suspended sediment concentration data in the Elwha River, Washington, September 2011 to September 2016
Abstract:
This data release provides 15-minute data of suspended-sediment concentration and fine (less than 0.0625 mm) suspended-sediment concentration during the removal of 2 large dams on the Elwha River from September 2011 to September 2016. Data are derived from regression relations with turbidity at the USGS gaging station Elwha River at the Diversion (no.12046260).
Supplemental_Information:
The methods used and data shown for the period of Sept. 15, 2011 to Sept. 10, 2013 (Years 1 and 2) are from "Suspended-sediment concentrations during dam decommissioning in the Elwha River, Washington: U.S. Geological Survey Data Set, http://wa.water.usgs.gov/pubs/misc/elwha/ssc/ doi:10.5066/F7M043DB" and provided in this data release for maintaining the complete 5-year record and for user convenience.

These 15-minute data represent conditions during years 1 and 2 of the 5-year period following dam removal and are appended to the time series of similar data for years 3 through 5.
  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?
    Date: 2017 (process 1 of 4)
Data are derived from regression relations with turbidity at the USGS gaging station Elwha River at the Diversion (no.12046260). The exact location of the gaging station was: north latitude 48 degrees 06'44" and west longitude 123 degrees 33'03", in NE 1/4 NW 1/4 Section 10, Township 30 North, Range 7 West, in Clallam County, Hydrologic Unit 17110020, on right bank 3.5 miles upstream from mouth, 5.7 miles west of Port Angeles. Drainage area is 318 square miles. Elevation of gage is NAVD 1988. For the period of September 11, 2013 through September 30, 2016, data were generated using regression models approved by the USGS Washington Water Science Center and described in the cross references cited here.
