Time-series data of water surface elevation, wave height, and water column currents, temperature, and salinity were acquired for 150 days between 13 April and 14 July 2015 off the north coast of the island of Tutuila, American Samoa in support of a study on the coastal circulation patterns within and in the vicinity of the National Park of American Samoa.
These time-series data were collected as a part of a larger investigation into the circulation and transport along the coast off the National Park of American Samoa on the island of Tutuila, American Samoa.

No formal attribute accuracy tests were conducted.
Data fall within expected ranges.
Dataset is considered complete for the information presented, as described in the abstract. Users are advised to read the metadata for each part of this data release carefully for additional details.
A formal accuracy assessment of the horizontal positional information in the data set has either not been conducted, or is not applicable.
A formal accuracy assessment of the vertical positional information in the data set has either not been conducted, or is not applicable.
Oceanographic instruments were deployed in the National Park of American Samoa to collect time-series data. Instruments included in deployment are: RDI Workhorse Monitor Wave and Current Gauge, Seabird SBE-37 Microcat Temperature and Salinity Logger, and Onset Hobo Temperature Logger
20150213
Onset Hobo Temperature loggers were retrieved and replaced with identical instruments and programing in order to refresh memory space and battery life. The data from the retrieved instruments were post-processed and sequentially added to this data release.

Data were accumulated into NetCDF files.

Files are named with a convention that uses a 13-digit alpha-numeric code. The first three characters for this dataset are all 'AMS' for the experiment name. The fourth and fifth characters represent the calendar year in which the first data point in the file was taken (15, 2015). The sixth and seventh characters are an alphanumeric code for the site name (M1, M2, etc.). The eighth character is a code to designate if the instrument was on a mooring in the water column (M) or a tripod on the bottom (T). The ninth and tenth characters represent the instrument position on the platform, where 01 is the top-most (for the Hobo loggers, the ninth is the instrument position, and the tenth is the deployment number, as these instruments were recovered and redeployed). Next is a two or three-character code for data type (ad, RDI acoustic Doppler current profiler [ADCP]); ct, SBE-37 temperature and salinity logger; tl, Hobo temperature logger). Files of wave statistics from RDI ADCP have the suffix 'wvs-p'.

Downloadable time-series data in NetCDF format. NetCDF files are grouped into five (5) different zip files, one zip file per instrument mooring. The zip file names consist of a 7-digit alpha-numeric code, where the first 5 digits (AMS15) indicate the study site and year (American Samoa, 2015), and the last 2 digits indicate which of the 5 moorings the instruments were mounted (M1-M5).
Unless otherwise stated, all data, metadata and related materials are considered to satisfy the quality standards relative to the purpose for which the data were collected. Although these data and associated metadata have been reviewed for accuracy and completeness and approved for release by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), no warranty expressed or implied is made regarding the display or utility of the data on any other system or for general or scientific purposes, nor shall the act of distribution constitute any such warranty.
