Abstract:
This dataset consists of rate-of-change statistics for the shorelines at Barter Island, Alaska for the time period 1947 to 2020. Rate calculations were computed within a GIS using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) version 5.0, an ArcGIS extension developed by the U.S. Geological Survey. A reference baseline was used as the originating point for the orthogonal transects cast by the DSAS software. The transects intersect each shoreline establishing measurement points, which are then used to calculate shoreline change rates.
Purpose:
These data are part of a series of data quantifying rates and patterns of shoreline change and coastal permafrost bluff retreat from 1947 to 2020 at Barter Island. Alaska.

Logical_Consistency_Report:
All polylines have a unique identification attribute (FID). This field is used by the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) to measure shoreline change.
Completeness_Report:
This dataset contains transects automatically generated by the DSAS software application that can be used to calculate shoreline rate-of-change statistics where shoreline position data are available. Rate of change statistics were calculated only where transects intersected 6 shoreline dates selected to provide long-term rate of change rate over the entire date range and study area. Where transects did not intersect all 6 shoreline dates selected for this long-term change-rate analysis, rate of change statistics were not calculated and statistical attributes have a value of -9999. This transect dataset however can be used to calculate statistics for any different combination of years as required by the user.

Parameters Used: baseline, transect spacing=10 meters, transect length=variable 500-1500 m, cast direction=onshore, baseline location=offshore, cast method=smoothed, smoothing distance=300 meters. Rate calculations were performed using DSAS v5.0 in ArcMap v10.7 on selected shoreline features to derive a long-term (greater than 70 years) change rate based on data availability. Parameters Used: shoreline layer=BTI_Shoreline_19472020, shoreline date field=DATE_, shoreline uncertainty field name=UNCY, the default accuracy= 0 meters, stats calculations=all, confidence interval=90%. All statistics were calculated.
