Why was the data set created?

These samples were collected by personnel from Holman and Associates Archaeological Consultants (San Francisco, California) in 1994 and 1996 at the request of Dominican College (now Dominican University of California), in response to proposed development on the campus, to determine the integrity and significance of the cultural resources and provide information necessary to formulate strategies for future mitigation of adverse impacts.

   Date: 2017 (process 1 of 1)

   Sediment samples were collected by Holman and Associates Archaeological Consultants (San Francisco, California) in 1994 and 1996 at the request of Dominican College (now Dominican University of California). The sediment samples were washed through sieves by Holman and Associates personnel and the archaeological remains removed from the sieves. The USGS obtained these archaeological remains, inspected them with unassisted vision (that is, without a microscope or other device), and used their morphologic characteristics (for example, shape, sculpturing, hinge, and aperture) to determine their taxonomic affinity.

1. How well have the observations been checked?
   No formal calibration tests were conducted.
2. How accurate are the geographic locations?
   A formal accuracy assessment of the horizontal positional information in the data set has not been conducted. The horizontal position was obtained from Google Maps.

4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?
   Dataset is considered complete for the information presented, as described in the abstract. Users are advised to read the metadata for each part of this data release carefully for additional details.
