Description:

Abstract:

Transects of near-surface seawater properties were collected over the fringing reef off Makua, HI, on the north shore of Kauai using a Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD) logger, either hand-carried or mounted to a kayak. The instrument returns temperature, salinity as a function of depth, and latitude/longitude.

Purpose:

Characterization of near-surface seawater properties, in conjunction with measurements of circulation and waves and profiles of resistivity on the shoreline will be used to assess the potential for terrestrial groundwater intrusion on the reef and the sources and fate of these water masses.

Raw data from the Castaway CTD were processed using the manufacturers software, CastAway-CTD, Version 1.5, on a Dell Personal Computer running Windows 7 Operating System.
