Description:
Abstract:
Water level, flow velocity, temperature, salinity, and turbidity were measured in a breach constructed in a flood-protection levee surrounding a restored former agricultural area in Port Susan, Washington, USA, near the mouth of the Stillaguamish River. Data were collected in a breach known as PSB1 at 15-minute intervals from March 21, 2014 to July 1, 2015 using a SonTek Argonaut-SW current meter, an In-Situ Aqua TROLL 200 pressure, conductivity, and temperature sensor, and an FTS DTS-12 turbidity sensor.
Purpose:
Observations were collected as part of the USGS Coastal Habitats in Puget Sound Project to characterize sediment fluxes in a recently restored agricultural area. An area of approximately 61 ha was reconnected to tidal flow via levee breaches. These data help assess the success of the restoration effort from a hydrodynamics and sediment-transport perspective.

Process_Description:
An instrument package was deployed on March 21, 2014 on the channel bottom within a breach of the former flood-protection levee of the restored agricultural area. The instruments, which included a SonTek Argonaut-SW, In-Situ Aqua TROLL 200, and FTS DTS-12, were mounted to a frame and cabled to a power source and data logger installed on the former levee crest. All parameters were measured at 15-minute intervals during the deployment, except for during periodic servicing trips. Recording ceased on July 1, 2015.
Process_Date: 20150701
Process_Step:
Process_Description:
Data downloaded from the instruments were ingested using the xarray Python package. Time zones were converted to UTC. Data quality assurance and quality control was performed by inspecting all variables and removing spurious values. Details of which portions of data were flagged and removed are available in the netCDF metadata. Periods of instrument burial or biofouling were the most common reasons for flagging and removing data. Attributes conforming to CF (Climate and Forecast) Conventions version 1.7 were added and the dataset was serialized to netCDF.
