This USGS data release includes the resulting processed elevation point data (xyz), an interpolated digital elevation model (DEM), with processed backscatter, side scan sonar, and seismic chirp data. Purpose: The purpose of the survey was to collect geophysical data in the shallow water (2-20 meters [m] water depth) off of Cape Canaveral, Florida, to better understand the linkages between geologic variability and the evolution and resiliency of the coastal system. Data were collected during USGS field activity number (FAN) 2016-342-FA. Supplemental_Information: Side scan sonar data for Cape Canaveral, Florida, was collected aboard the R/V Coastal Explorer by the Center for Marine & Wetland Studies (CMWS) between June 13 and 17, 2016. The instrument used for the side scan survey was a Klein 3900 Digital Side Scan Sonar dual frequency (445/900 khz) system. The system was rigged through the A-frame of the survey vessel. Prior to data collection, planned survey lines were created using the survey navigation and planning software HYPACK. The sonar system was interfaced with a Garmin 17x GPSmap 6212 Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS). CMWS post-processed the data and created final products. The CMWS at Coastal Carolina University created final products..
