Abstract:
The Simulating WAves Nearshore (SWAN) wave model input grid 4 bathymetry with pit 3 configuration (G4_P3_grid.shp) and output of significant wave height, dominant wave period, and mean wave direction resulting from simulation of wave scenarios at Breton Island, LA, as described in USGS Open-File Report 20151055 are provided here.
Purpose:
This geographic information system (GIS) layer contains the model grid used for the calculation of waves in the wave climate scenarios used to investigate hydrodynamic variability in the northern Gulf of Mexico. This data layer is intended to illustrate the nested model grid G4 (designated with P1 for pit 1, P2 for pit 2, or P3 for pit 3) over which calculations were performed. The analysis results, which are contained in other data layers, are only presented at those locations where model outputs exist (for example, "wet" grid cells, as opposed to "dry" grid cells in the model representing land).

There were 128 individual scenarios ran, which were based on significant wave height (H) and mean wave direction (D). Significant wave height was included in eight bins (H1-H8) that ranged from 0 to 6 meters (m), in intervals of 0.5 m and 1 m. There were 16 bins for mean wave direction (D1-D16) that ranged between 0–360 degrees, in intervals of 22.5 degrees. Of the 128 scenarios, 12 were run where no events were observed so these were excluded from the data release.
