Three proposed interior headland restoration scenarios in the Grand Bay estuary (Mississippi/Alabama) are modeled using Delft3D (developed by Deltares) to understand impacts on suspended sediment concentrations, bed level morphology and sediment fluxes under present-day conditions and a sea level rise of 0.5 meters (m). Delft3D model output of suspended sediment concentrations (SSC), sediment fluxes, initial and final bed levels, and hydrodynamic data are included in this dataset. Model output from six scenarios (comprised of three restoration (R) alternatives and two sea level (SL) conditions) as forced by 18 climatological wind and wave forcing conditions are included in this data release (Jenkins and others, 2023a. For further information regarding model input generation, set up, and analysis, refer to Jenkins and others (2023b). Purpose: The Delft3D was used to assess effects of interior headland restoration. Appropriate use of this data includes the assessment of morphological, sediment process, and hydrodynamic differences due to the placement of restored features and sea level for the Grand Bay estuary. TheGrandBayModel_InitialDEMs.zip is a dataset that consists of Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) metadata (.txt and .xml) and Network Common Data Form (NetCDF, .nc) files containing the following variables: coordinates of the model grid (Easting and Northing) and the initial bathymetric/topographic (z) model elevation values, in meters (positive down). These files represent the initial digital elevation models (DEMs) in present conditions (no action) at Grand Bay, with inclusion of restored Grand Batture Island only, and all restored islands (Grand Batture, Isle Aux Dames, and Marsh Island). The NGDC coastal DEM covers the full extent of the modeling domain and was used primarily for offshore regions that were not included in the CoNED DEM, which contains more recent light detection and ranging (lidar) elevations in the coastal areas. Bathymetry in Grand Bay was updated with two DEMs derived from single-beam surveys in 2017 and 2021 (DeWitt and others, 2017; Stalk and others, 2021). To correct for known biases in lidar data within marshes, an elevation correction based on biomass density was used to lower the marsh platform in the DEM to more accurately capture wetting and drying in the model (Medeiros and others, 2015; Alizad and others, 2018; Alizad and others, 2020). The resulting wave variables from the model elevations were then packaged into a NetCDF file using the functions available in MATLAB for inclusion in this data release. This step was completed for the three initial DEM data files: Grand Bay in present conditions (no action), inclusion of restored Grand Batture Island only, and all restored islands (Grand Batture, Isle Aux Dames, and Marsh Island) and were packaged into a zipped file.
