Three Acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCP), a current meter and a pressure logger were deployed at Crocker Reef, a senile (dead) barrier reef located in the northern portion of the Florida Reef Tract from December 12, 2014 to January 30, 2015 to quantify flow characteristics in various sub-regions. A RDI Workhorse Monitor current profiler was deployed on the reef flat and configured to measure three-dimensional flow velocities throughout the water column. Current measurements were taken at a rate of 1 hertz (Hz) for 120 seconds (s) every 10 minutes; each 120-s sampling was internally averaged to provide data at 10-minute resolution. Current profiles were made with a vertical measurement spacing of 0.5 meters (m).
The temperature, water depth, wave and current data from the fore reef and reef flat in Crocker Reef, FL was used to quantify the physical characteristics and forcing on the reef. This time series dataset includes ocean current profiles that were created using raw data downloaded from the RDI site location. The files provided in this data release were converted from the original, proprietary format to the Network Common Data Form (NetCDF) to help facilitate accessibility and distribution to the public.

The time series represents the raw data from instruments converted to NetCDF format, no formal logical accuracy tests were conducted.
This dataset is considered complete for the information presented, as described in the abstract section. Users are advised to read the rest of the metadata record carefully for additional details.
Location information (point position) for this site was obtained from a Garmin GPSmap 62s handheld global positioning system (GPS) with a nominal accuracy of 3 to 5 meters (m) 95% typical (WAAS accuracy in North America).
The vertical datum used for this dataset was the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88) with an estimated resolution of 0.3 m.
Prior to survey commencement, the RDI WorkHorse Monitor was calibrated by Teledyne Technologies International Corporation to ensure equipment-related errors would be minimal and the instrument was operating at peak efficiency. Using a self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA), USGS staff deployed the meter at the pre-determined site, called Aqua on December 10, 2014. Instrument was recording with internal data logger and power using internal batteries, it was retrieved the afternoon of January 30, 2015 to download data following instructions in the WorkHorse Monitor ADCP User’s Guide. Using a Matlab script, the raw data were converted from a proprietary file type to NetCDF format and trimmed to include only points that correspond to times when the instrument was actually deployed on the seafloor.
