Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
Features were manually drawn. Many of the artifacts were lines (i.e., infinitely thin) that were delineated by polygonal features with a finite width. The drawn width does not represent an area for the artifact, but rather outlines the general location of the artifact.
The individual and merged elevation datasets were checked for accuracy in the coastal area using coloring schemes that highlighted elevations near sea level (e.g., -10 m to 10 m). These areas were delineated manually and at multiple scales. Features contained in this dataset do not locate all elevation artifacts.
Data set is considered complete for the information presented, as described in the abstract. Users are advised to read the rest of the metadata record carefully for additional details.
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
The horizontal accuracy of the features were dependent upon the horizontal accuracy of the source terrain models. The feature boundary locations were manually drawn and do not represent an exact position or boundaries of an artifact, but instead were meant to indicate the presence of an artifact within the area encompassed by the polygon feature.

1 by 1 degree seamless sections of the National Elevation Dataset (NED) were downloaded for U.S. coastal topography included within the potential area required for groundwater models of coastal areas. Elevations greater than 8 meters in the final product are all from NED data. Elevations between 8 and 0 meters may be NED values but the source depends on the availability of bathymetry for each grid cell.

Process_Description:
Manually outlined and delineated features where the DEMs in this analysis required additional steps to correct artifacts using ArcGIS 10.3. The elevations were checked primarily by using a color scheme that ranged from slightly below sea level to slightly above sea level to accentuate the elevations in the coastal zones. For the U.S. east coast, the range used was primarily -10 m to 10 m relative to zero in the datum of the source data. For the U.S. west coast, -20 m to 20 m and -10 m to 50 m were used to check both coastal zones and as well as deeply incised channels.
