Description:
Abstract:
This data publication is a compilation of six different multibeam surveys covering the previously unmapped Queen Charlotte Fault offshore southeast Alaska and Haida Gwaii, Canada. These data were collected between 2005 and 2018 under a cooperative agreement between the U.S. Geological Survey, Natural Resources Canada, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The six source surveys from different multibeam sonars are combined into one terrain model with a 30-meter resolution. A complementary polygon shapefile records the extent of each source survey in the output grid.
Purpose:
This polygon shapefile records the extent of each source GeoTIFF used to create the terrain model. Areas where source polygons overlap indicate where the "blend" option during the mosaic process calculated the depth.

Processed multibeam files were shared directly with USGS on 8/31/16. Files were imported to CARIS HIPS (v. 9.1) and edited. Depth surface was created using the UTM 08, WGS 84 coordinate system at 30-meter resolution. Final surface was exported as a 32-bit floating point GeoTIFF (SKQ201611T_30m.tif)

Process_Description:
STEP 1: CREATE POLYGON MASK FOR EACH INPUT GRID
A polygon shapefile of the extent of each of the 6 grids used as a source for the terrain model was created using a two-step process using ArcGIS Pro (v. 2.7.). First, an 8-bit raster was created using the logical expression "GridName less than zero". Second this 8-bit raster was converted to a polygon shapefile ("GridName"_Source.shp) using the "Raster to Polygon" tool. The "GridName" for both the input(.tif) and output shapefiles (.shp) are listed below. Contact information for all processing steps are the same (Brian Andrews).

STEP 2: MERGE INDIVIDUAL SOURCE POLYGONS INTO ONE SHAPEFILE
The six individual polygon shapefiles were merged into one shapefile using the "Merge" tool in ArcGIS Pro (v. 2.7). The order of source shapefiles used during the merge process was the same as the mosaic process used to create the Regional 30-meter grid. After the merge process, and new Attribute "Source" as added to the attribute table and populated to record the source of each feature in the shapefile.
