Title:
The Massachusetts Bay Internal Wave Experiment, August 1998: Data Report
Abstract:
This data report presents oceanographic observations made in Massachusetts Bay in August 1998 as part of the Massachusetts Bay Internal Wave Experiment (MBIWE98). MBIWE98 was carried out to characterize large-amplitude internal waves in Massachusetts Bay and to investigate the possible resuspension and transport of bottom sediments caused by these waves. This data report presents a description of the field program, an overview of the data through summary plots and statistics, and the time-series data in NetCDF format. The objective of this report is to make the data available in digital form and to provide summary plots and statistics to facilitate browsing of the data set.

Why was the data set created?

This data report presents a description of the Massachusetts Bay Internal Wave Experiment (MBIWE) field program, an overview of the data through summary plots and statistics, and the time-series data in NetCDF format. The objective of this report is to make the data available in digital form and to provide summary plots and statistics to facilitate browsing of the data set.

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?
  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?
    Date: 08-Sep-2021 (process 1 of 1)
The original metadata did not contain any process steps. All of the information needed is available from the report.
The metadata was updated to fix format and errors in order to be made available from the Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program (CMHRP) metadata web-accessible folder (WAF). The following edits were made: Changed series name to Data Series, change publication place to Reston, VA, updated online links to the DOI link, added the suggested citation, changed "general" thesaurus name to "none", added USGS Thesaurus with appropriate keywords, added the ISO 19115 Topic Category thesaurus and appropriate keywords, added keywords section with USGS persistent identifier as theme keyword, replaced the distribution liability with one from Fundamental Science Practices. Set the metadata contact email to a generic email since that author has since retired. The metadata date (20060809), but not the contact (except email and contact instructions) was updated. The metadata available from a harvester may supersede metadata available from the publication. Compare the metadata dates to determine which metadata file is most recent. Original fixes were done 20210816. Additional edit to fix an author name. Person who carried out this activity:
