During Julian day 309 and 310 of survey 2011-041-FA the depths from the Garmin fathometer was logged directly to the SEGY header for heave corrections. Although the depths were recorded to the SEGY, the x,y coordinates of the navigation were occasionally recorded ~ 10m offset from the trackline. Some of these offset shots included the 100 shot interval extracted for this shapefile. These shots were not removed from the "BarnBaySeisShot100.shp" The navigation for these two days were edited (prior to generating the trackline and after generating the "BarnBayShot100.shp") to remove these erroneous points produced from recording the depth to the SEGY header. As a result, some of the 100 shot intervals in the "BarnBaySeisShot100" point shapefile, do not fall directly on this "BarnBaySeisTrks.shp" polyline shapefile, however, they can still be used to identify distance along the line when viewing the seismic profile images.

Seismic profile data were collected along approximately 2092 kilometers of survey lines using an EdgeTech 424 subbottom profiling system (frequency modulation swept frequency 4-24 kHz) which was towed from the starboard side of the R/V Rafael. SonarWiz seismic-acquisition software was used to control the EdgeTech 3100 portable topside unit, digitally log trace data in SEG-Y rev. 1 format (IEEE floating point), and record GPS navigation coordinates to the SEG-Y trace headers (in arcseconds of latitude and longitude, multiplied by a scalar of 100). During the survey, data were acquired using a 250 ms shot rate with a 5 ms transit pulse length, logging 100 ms of data per trace. A swept frequency spectrum of 4-24 kHz was used for the entire survey, selectable via SonarWiz communicating with the EdgeTech 3100 topside controller. DGPS navigation was supplied by a Hemisphere receiver with the antenna located on the port side aft cabin. Cable layback is 4 meters, depth below water line 0.5 meters. GPS offset from sheave: x = 2.38, y = .62, z = 0. Entered these values into SonarWiz starting with line 1.
Seismic-reflection data were processed using SIOSEIS (2011) and Seismic Unix (Stockwell and Cohen, 2008). All navigation data were extracted from trace headers, edited, and saved as ASCII text files.

Step 1:
SIOSEIS (version 2010.2.25) was used to read SEG-Y files, renumber shots starting from one, and write out new SEG-Y files. The original shot numbers, which were assigned by SonarWiz sequentially over the duration of an acquisition session despite SEG-Y file changes, are preserved in the raw SEG-Y data.

Step 2:
Seismic Unix (version 4.2) was used to read renumbered SEG-Y files, write a Seismic Unix file, and extract SEG-Y trace header information, including shot number, longitude, latitude, year, Julian day, and time of day (UTC). Geographic coordinates (WGS84) were converted to UTM zone 18 coordinates (WGS 84) using Proj (version 4.6.0). Header information from each SEG-Y file was saved to text files after an AWK (no version) filter was used to maintain the first and last shots, shots at multiples of 100, and shots with unique navigation coordinates. End shots and shots at multiples of 100 may not have unique navigation coordinates. A 100 shot interval was chosen because it corresponds to the annotation interval provided along the top of the seismic-reflection profile PNG images.

Step 3: Convert 100 Shots to feature class.
Shot point positions at 100 shot intervals for each Julian Day were concatenated and saved as a comma delimited file ("JDXXX"_100Shot.csv). An AWK script was used to add and populate attribute fields 'Survey', 'sonar', and 'vessel'.
Text files containing 100 shot navigation for each Julian Day was converted to a file geodatabase feature class using the context menu within ArcCatalog (v. 9.3.1). Input file= JDXXX_100Shot.csv, output file= JDXXX100Sht. Next, the feature classes for each Julian Day of a survey were merged to create on feature class for each field activity number (survey). Input file= JDXXX_100Sht, output=SeismicShot100_"Survey". Finally the 100 shot feature classes from the four surveys were merged into one point feature class using the merge tool in ArcCatalog (v.9.3.1). Input files= SeismicShot100_2011-041, SeismicShot100_2012_003, SeismicShot100_2013_014, SesimicShot100_2013_030. Output featureclass= "BarnBaytSeisShot100"

Process_Description:
Step 4 Convert feature class to shapefile.
Before converting the file geodatabase feature class to a shapefile, a new string attribute "time" was added using the "add field" tool within ArcCatalog (v.9.3.1). The new "time" attribute was calculated using the "UTC" date/time attribute. The feature class was exported from the table of contents in ArcMap (v.9.3.1) to a shapefile (BarnBaySeisShot100.shp) using the coordinate system of the data frame (Geographic, WGS 84). Finally the "UTC" data/time field, and the "OBJECT_ID fields from the original feature class were deleted from the new shapefile.
