Title: USGS Cruise 97009 Sidescan Sonar Data Files
Abstract:
This CD-ROM contains digital high resolution sidescan sonar data collected during the USGS Cruise 97009 aboard the R/V MS MS Coastal. This CD-ROM (Compact Disc-Read Only Memory) has been produced in accordance with the ISO 9660 CD-ROM Standard and is therefore capable of being read on any computing platform that has appropriate CD-ROM driver software installed. Access to the data and information contained on this CD-ROM was developed using the HyperText Markup Language (HTML) utilized by the World Wide Web (WWW) project. Development of the CD-ROM documentation and user interface in HTML allows a user to access the information by using a variety of WWW information browsers (i.e. NCSA Mosaic, Netscape) to facilitate browsing and locating information and data. To access the information contained on this disk with a WWW client browser, open the file 'index.htm' at the top level directory of this CD-ROM with your selected browser. The HTML documentation is written utilizing some HTML 3.0 enhancements. The disk should be viewable by all WWW browsers but may not properly format on some older WWW browsers. Also, some links to USGS collaborators are available on this CD-ROM. These links are only accessible if access to the Internet is available during browsing of the CD-ROM. The archived sidescan data may be downloaded and processed. There is software available on this CD-ROM for viewing the individual swaths using any computer system running the UNIX operating system.

The metadata from the Open-File report was edited to remove errors as well as update some information. Edits include updating the citation section with the OFR information, fixed the time period of content to cruise dates, added supplemental information with link to the field activity page on CMGDS, added the USGS Thesaurus and ISO 19115 Topic Category thesaurus, added keywords section with USGS persistent identifier as theme keyword, removed browse graphic section – since there isn’t one included in the report (information was pointing users to an obsolete system), removed empty source information in the lineage section, filled out the blank field for the NAD83 horizontal coordinate system, used a generic email address in metadata, updated digital transfer information, replaced distribution liability with FSP statement, replaced the first process step of “unknown” with cruise information. Other blank fields were deleted. The metadata date (19981003), but not the contact (except email and contact instructions) was updated. The metadata available from a harvester may supersede metadata available from the publication. Compare the metadata dates to determine which metadata file is most recent. Those edits were performed 20210816. Modified the originator from: Coastal and Marine Program, USGS Woods Hole Field Center, Sea-Floor Mapping Project, 384 Woods Hole Road, Woods Hole, MA 02543-1598 to U.S. Geological Survey. Also modified the metadata contact organization to the same value (20210923). Person who carried out this activity:
