What does this data set describe?

Title: R/V FARNELLA 90-3 navigation data (tracklines)
Abstract:
This ArcView GIS data layer contains the navigation fix points for the R/V FARNELLA 90-3 cruise.
Supplemental_Information:
This file contains only the locations of the individual navigation points. Navigation fixes were recorded in the mrg-mrg format at a two minute interval. The date and time information is contained as attribute information in the trackp.shp file.

Why was the data set created?

The trackl.shp file shows the R/V FARNELLA 90-3 trackline. This GIS overlay is a component of the U. S Geological Survey, Woods Hole Field Center's, Gulf of Mexico ArcView GIS database. The Gulf of Mexico GIS database is intended to organize and display USGS held data and provide on-line (WWW) access to the data and/or metadata.

Edited the metadata to remove errors flagged by MP. Filled out the citation information including adding the edition, suggested citation, adding the DOI link and a link to the data page. Modified the dataset title slightly to be more descriptive. Added USGS Thesaurus and ISO 19115 Topic Category theme keywords. Added the link to the browse graphic. Additional small edits to the metadata were made to be consistent with current standards and fix obvious errors. Updated the distribution liability to an approved FSP disclaimer statement. Updated the distribution format and provided links to the data. Removed a redundant distribution format. The metadata date was updated, but not the metadata contact. The metadata contact email was updated to a valid link with an explanation in the contact instructions (20240718). The metadata available from a harvester may supersede metadata available from the publication. Compare the metadata dates to determine which metadata file is most recent.
