JPEG images of each seismic line were generated in order to incorporate images of the seismic data into Geographic Information System (GIS) projects and data archives utilizing HTML. The JPG format is universal and enables hassle-free transfer of data. These data yield a pictorial view of the seismic data acquired.In 1999, the USGS, in partnership with the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium, began a study to investigate processes affecting shoreline change along the northern coast of South Carolina, focusing on the Grand Strand region. Previous work along the U.S. Atlantic coast shows that the structure and composition of older geologic strata located seaward of the coast heavily influences the coastal behavior of areas with limited sediment supply, such as the Grand Strand. By defining this geologic framework and identifying the transport pathways and sinks of sediment, geoscientists are developing conceptual models of the present-day physical processes shaping the South Carolina coast. The primary objectives of this research effort are: 1) to provide a regional synthesis of the shallow geologic framework underlying the coastal upland, shoreface and inner continental shelf, and define its role in coastal evolution and modern beach behavior; 2) to identify and model the physical processes affecting coastal ocean circulation and sediment transport, and to define their role in shaping the modern shoreline; and 3) to identify sediment sources and transport pathways; leading to construction of a regional sediment budget.

No additional checks for topological consistency were performed on the data.
All seiemic-reflection data collected during USGS field operations offshore of Myrtle Beach, SC 1999 - 2003 were processed and converted to JPG images. Quality control was performed during acquisition and processing.
DGPS is assumed to be accurate within 1-2 meters. All DGPS data are referenced to WGS84. The data were acquired with an Edgetech 512ikHz CHIRP sub-bottom profiler. The system was towed at the surface, close to the survey vessel. Horizontal accuracy is thus assumed to be within 3 meters.
Raw SEGY-Y data were processed utilizing Colorado School of Mines Seismic Unix (SU) seismic processing software. The seismic data were recorded with TEI Delph Seismics acquisition software. During processing, the SEG-Y data were converted to SU format. Gains were applied to the data to reduce noise and enhance the data. 'Mute' was used to remove all noise/signals within the water column. The data were then converted to postscript and JPG formats.

Edits to the metadata were made to fix any errors that MP v 2.9.36 flagged. This is necessary to enable the metadata to be successfully harvested for various data catalogs. In some cases, this meant adding text "Information unavailable" or "Information unavailable from original metadata" for those required fields that were left blank. Other minor edits were probably performed (title, publisher, publication place, etc.). Attempted to modify http to https where appropriate. The link to the data in the Identification_Information section had to be fixed. The link to the data in the Distribution_Information section had to be fixed. Added the online link to the zipped data file in the Identification_Information section. Added the online link to the zipped data file in the Distribution_Information section. The distribution format name was modified in an attempt to be more consistent with other metadata files of the same data format. The metadata date (but not the metadata creator) was edited to reflect the date of these changes. The metadata available from a harvester may supersede metadata bundled within a download file. Compare the metadata dates to determine which metadata file is most recent.
