The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), is producing detailed geologic maps of the coastal sea floor. Imagery, originally collected by NOAA for charting purposes, provides a fundamental framework for research and management activities along this part of Long Island Sound, shows the composition and terrain of the seabed, and provides information on sediment transport and benthic habitat. Interpretive data layers were derived from the multibeam echo-sounder data collected north of Duck Pond Point, New York. During April and May 2010, bottom photographs and surficial sediment data were acquired during 2 cruises as part of USGS ground-truth reconnaissance surveys of this area. For more information on the ground-truth surveys see <http://quashnet.er.usgs.gov/data/2010/10010/> and <http://quashnet.er.usgs.gov/data/2010/10015/>.
The purpose of these data is to provide the navigation for OSV Bold cruise 2010-015-FA as recorded from an Ashtech G12 Global Positioning System (GPS) Sensor. This provides an archive of the original navigation as well as allowing others to reprocess the navigation for their purposes.

These are the original files recorded from the Ashtech navigation unit. No additional checks or corrections have been made to these files.
These files represent all the navigation recorded from the Ashtech unit during OSV Bold cruise 2010-015-FA.
The navigation receiver used was an Ashtech. The accuracy of this system is better than 7 meters.
A USB thumb drive was used to transfer the text navigation files from the computer receiving the GPS string from the ASHTECH G12 Sensor. The original navigation files are stored in a single folder. The filenames are in the format of cruiseid_julianday.txt. The times in the files reflect UTC (Coordinate Universal Time) times.

Edits to the metadata were made to fix any errors that MP v 2.9.32 flagged. This is necessary to enable the metadata to be successfully harvested for various data catalogs. In some cases, this meant adding text "Information unavailable" or "Information unavailable from original metadata" for those required fields that were left blank. Other minor edits were probably performed (title, publisher, publication place, etc.). The metadata date (but not the metadata creator) was edited to reflect the date of these changes. The metadata available from a harvester may supersede metadata bundled within a download file. Compare the metadata dates to determine which metadata file is most recent.
