Version History for National Assessment of Shoreline Change: A GIS compilation of updated vector shorelines and associated shoreline change data for the north coast of Alaska, U.S. Canadian border to Icy Cape (formerly cited as) Gibbs, A.E., Ohman, K.A., Coppersmith, R., and Richmond, B.M., 2017, National Assessment of Shoreline Change: A GIS compilation of updated vector shorelines and associated shoreline change data for the north coast of Alaska, U.S. Canadian border to Icy Cape: U.S. Geological Survey data release, https://doi.org/10.5066/F72Z13N1. (now cited as) Gibbs, A.E., Ohman, K.A., Coppersmith, R., and Richmond, B.M., 2017, National Assessment of Shoreline Change: A GIS compilation of updated vector shorelines and associated shoreline change data for the north coast of Alaska, U.S. Canadian border to Icy Cape (ver. 2.0, September 2024): U.S. Geological Survey data release, https://doi.org/10.5066/F72Z13N1. ________________________________________________________ Version 1.0 posted online September 18, 2017 Data included in version 1.0 posted on ScienceBase Shorelines from 4 time periods (circa-1940s, -1980s, -2000s, and -2010s), and DSAS version 4.3 baselines and transects with long- and short-term linear regression rate calculations for 4 regions on the North Coast of Alaska: • East Beaufort Sea Coast (U.S. Canadian Border to Hulahula River) • Central Beaufort Sea Coast (Hulahula River to Colville River) • West Beaufort Sea Coast (Colville River to Point Barrow) • East Chukchi Sea Coast (Point Barrow to Icy Cape) Version 1 is an update to the original North coast of Alaska shoreline change assessment (Gibbs and Richmond, 2015; https://dx.doi.org/10.3133/ofr20151048) and data (Gibbs and others, 2015; https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/2015/1030/) which provided shoreline change rate statistic calculated using shorelines from 2 time periods (circa-1940s and -2000s). It includes revised rate-of-change calculations based on additional shoreline position data from circa-1980s and -2010s. ________________________________________________________ Version 2.0 posted online September 2024 Changes in version 2.0 posted on ScienceBase The overall landing page was revised to provide additional information and context for this data release. For the East and Central Beaufort regions (only): 1) One additional shoreline position derived from 2017 imagery was added. 2) New DSAS 5.1.2 baselines and transects were created. 3) Long- and short-term shoreline rate-of-change statistics were recalculated. The datasets were reorganized on the landing page and disclaimers were added to version 1.0 to clarify which East and Central Beaufort datasets are the most current. ________________________________________________________ Updates posted April 2026 To support the ScienceBase modernization process, datasets were re-titled for consistency and clarity. The superseded version 1.0 datasets for East and Central Beaufort were moved to the data release revision archive on the Coastal and Marine Geoscience Data System (CMGDS). The data are publicly accessible at https://cmgds.marine.usgs.gov/data/pcmsc/data-release/revision-archive/doi_F72Z13N1/
