(now cited as) East, A., Harrison, L.R., Smith, D.P., Bond, R., Logan, J., Nicol, C., and Chow, K., 2017, River-channel topography, grain size, and turbidity records from the Carmel River, California, before, during, and after removal of San Clemente Dam (ver. 2.0, March 2022): U.S. Geological Survey data release, http://doi.org/10.5066/P9HG8UDS. ________________________________________________________ Version 1.0 posted online 2017 ________________________________________________________ Version 2.0 revised and reposted online March 2022 Changes in version 2.0 Changes to: Topographic survey transect data along the Carmel River, central California, 2013 to 2021 (formerly known as "Survey transect data along the Carmel River, central California, 2013 to 2021"): 1. Added new topographic transect data: - added topographic transect data surveyed at site RS on 2014-07-09 - added topographic transects RS3B and RS5B at site RS surveyed on 2017-06-15 - added topographic transect data surveyed at all sites in years 2019, 2020, and 2021 2. Corrected survey rod height error for 8 measurements on river-right (SE side, DISTANCE > 16.5) side of transect DM6. The incorrect rod height used was 2.568 meters; the correct rod height was 1.519 meters. Elevations for these points were reduced by 1.049 meters accordingly. 3. The distance measurements for all data points on transect SC2 from 2013, 2015, and 2016 were corrected to align with the updated 2017 reference mark for that transect. A value of 19.44 meters was added to the distance measurement for these points to align the right bank of the transects. 4. Cartesian coordinates (UTM, zone 10N, northing and easting) were added to all transects for sites CR, RS, DM, and SH (which were surveyed using a total station). For sites measured with an auto level (DDU, DDL, BW, SR, SC, and CRO) the northing and easting columns were set to NULL. 5. The method to calculate distance along line was changed for all transects at total station-surveyed sites (CR, RS, DM, and SH). The previous distance value was calculated using the Euclidean distance of the surveyed location to the left-bank mark (LBM), regardless of the horizontal position of the point relative to the transect. The updated method projects each point to its closest position along the transect before calculating the Euclidean distance along the transect to the left-bank mark. This method is more similar to the distance along line used for the auto level surveys and reduces the error resulting from points which are surveyed slightly off the transect. 6. A point ID field (PID) was added to all transect points to facilitate reference to initial survey notes. For the total station-surveyed transects (CR, RS, DM, and SH) these ID numbers are the ID numbers assigned during each survey. They are unique for each YEAR and SITE but are not unique between years (sometimes repeated). For the auto level-surveyed sites (DDU, DDL, BW, SR, SC, and CRO), these ID numbers were sequentially assigned in post-processing. 7. Corrected errors in some measurements made in 2015 on transect SC1. Changes to: Topographic survey transect endpoint coordinates along the Carmel River, central California, 2013 to 2021 (formerly known as "Survey transect endpoint coordinates along the Carmel River, central California, 2013 to 2021"): 1. Adjusted coordinates to reference marks in response to changes in river channel orientation and width: - CRO5, LBM - CRO4, LBM and RBM - CRO3, LBM and RBM - CRO2, LBM - SC2, LBM - SH3, RBM - SH1, LBM - DM6, LBM - DM5, LBM - DM3, LBM - DM1, LBM - RS5, LBM - RS4, LBM - RS3, LBM - RS2, LBM - RS1, LBM - CR5, LBM - CR3, LBM - CR2, LBM 2. Added reference marks for new transects: - RS3B, LBM and RBM - RS5B, LBM and RBM Changes to: Grain size data from the Carmel River, central California, 2013 to 2021: 1. Added grainsize data for surveys between 2017 and 2021. 2. Reshaped data file to facilitate data analysis. Data was pivoted, so that grain sizes for each date/site are grouped in one row, with a column for each grain size count. 3. The cartesian coordinates (UTM, zone 10N, northing and easting) were added to each sample. These coordinates represent the mid-point of each transect only and are not precise coordinates for each grain size measurement. Added a new dataset to data release: High resolution topography for two pools on the Carmel River, central California, 2014 to 2019 There were no changes to the dataset titled "Turbidity data from the Carmel River, central California, 2014 to 2017."
