Survey Site Locations and Photos:

Ibral Nagar Nalaveli

previous next

Tsunami deposit at approximately 100 m inland. Multiple layers are visibile. The coarse sand layers (orange color) could be deposited by return flow of the tsunami. The fine sand layers (gray color) are composed of beach sand and could be deposited by the tsunami flowing landward. This location is near a topographic low and was the most unusual deposit that Dr. Bruce Jaffe saw in Sri Lanka. Other deposits in Sri Lanka and elsewhere have been deposited primarily by landward flow of the tsunami (B. Jaffe).
