Field Activity Details for field activity 1972-005-FA

Other ID: HUNT Cruise 3; Leg III

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): William Dillon, John C. Hathaway

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Electro-Magnetic: Magnetics, Location-Elevation: Navigation, Seismics: Air Gun / Water Gun, Seismics: Sonobuoy, Sonar: Sidescan

Scientific Purpose/Goals: The purpose of the cruise was to make detailed surveys of possible sites for shallow drilling on the outer continental shelf. The areas covered were the northern and southern edges of Georges Bank; Physalis, Mytilus and Bear Seamounts; and lines in transit to and from these areas.

Start Port/Location: Woods Hole, MA

End Port/Location:

Start Date: 1972-08-20

End Date: 1972-08-29

Equipment Used: Air gun, Seismic refraction, Single channel hydrophone, EG&G Model 260 sidescan sonar, Loran-C, Marine magnetometer

Information to be Derived:

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Continuous seismic profiling at areas F, G, H, I, J, and K.
