Field Activity Details for field activity 1985-021-FA

Other ID: none

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): Page Valentine

Affiliate Investigator(s): J.R. Uzmann, NMFS

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Imagery: Photo, Imagery: Video, Sampling: Biology, Sampling: Geology, Location-Elevation: Navigation

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Determine abundance of lobsters and lobster shelters in selected areas of the northwest region of the Gulf of Maine (Jordan Basin). Describe and record the geological and sedimentary features of the sea floor at all dive locations; collect sediment samples for grain size analysis and qualitative infaunal samples.

Start Port/Location: Boothbay Harbor, ME

End Port/Location: Boothbay Harbor, ME

Start Date: 1985-06-22

End Date: 1985-06-29

Equipment Used: Camera- deep sea, Video camera - deep sea, Push corer (wh), Northstar 7000 LORAN-C

Information to be Derived: Samples and chemical analysis; Grain size analysis; Habitat maps;

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: 10 submersible dives (JSL2-1089 thru JSL2-1098) observed/documented the sea floor and lobsters, and collected required sediment samples. Sediment samples: 18.
