Field Activity Details for field activity 1986-003-FA

Other ID: none

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): David Nichols

Affiliate Investigator(s): Fred Anders, ACOE

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Sonar: Sidescan, Seismics: Boomer, Seismics: Sub Bottom Profiler, Location-Elevation: Navigation

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Map near shore sand beds to determine volume for potential sand borrow sites for beach replenishment.

Start Port/Location: Ocean City, MD

End Port/Location: Ocean City, MD

Start Date: 1986-04-14

End Date: 1986-04-22

Equipment Used: Klein 531 sidescan, ORE 140 transceiver/1036 transducer sub-bottom profiler, ORE GeoPulse, Megapulse Accufix 500 LORAN-C

Information to be Derived:

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Track lines were run over nearshore sand beds to determine the volume available for beach replenishment. Approximately one third of the survey was completed before bad weather conditions concluded the job. Another survey will be planned for June 1986, completing the project so that coring can begin shortly thereafter.
