Principal Investigator(s): Christina Kellogg

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s): Christina Kellogg

Data Type(s): Biological Field Study: Experiments (biological), Biological Field Study: Surveys (biological), Sampling: Biology

Scientific Purpose/Goals: To characterize the microbial community associated with the deep-sea coral Lophelia pertusa

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Fort Pierce, FL

End Port/Location: Fort Pierce, FL

Start Date: 2009-08-06

End Date: 2009-08-17

Equipment Used: Kellogg Sampler

Information to be Derived: Bacterial-community species composition, presence of specific functional genes, identification of novel microbial species

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Nineteen samples of the cold-water coral Lophelia pertusa were collected at two Atlantic sites for microbiology work using the Johnson-Sea-Link submersible and Kellogg sampler.
