Other ID: none

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): Abby Sallenger

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s): William Pfeiffer, Billy Reynolds

Data Type(s): Imagery: Photo, Location-Elevation: Navigation, Time Series: Mooring (physical oceanography)

Scientific Purpose/Goals: To acquire ground control data for LIDAR mapping.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Belle Chasse, LA

End Port/Location: Belle Chasse, LA

Start Date: 2010-02-15

End Date: 2010-02-15

Equipment Used: Choke Ring Antenna, Ashtech Z-Xtreme DGPS, Camera, Digital, Hand Held, Theoolite

Information to be Derived: Ground Elevation and vegetation heights referenced to control point "Pt. Mark" on the Chandeleur Islands in various ground cover environments.

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Established 5 temporary control points tied to “Pt. Mark” using differential GPS. These control points were used as reference marks for station establishment of the total station. The total station was used to obtain ground elevations referenced to the WGS84 ellipsoid in six different ground cover Environments including: bare earth; shallow water; emergent vegetation; tall vegetation; short vegetation and mangrove scrub.

Staff: William Pfeiffer, Billy Reynolds

Notes: University of New Orleans will revisit some of the same sites using RTK GPS during the actual mapping flights.
