Other ID: MB-10-XX

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): Christopher Smith

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s): Christopher Smith

Data Type(s): Environmental Data: Conductivity, Imagery: Photo, Sampling: Geology

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Collect surface sediments (for pre-oil impact) from Mobile Bay to establish a baseline of hydrocarbon source data.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Mobile Bay, AL

End Port/Location: Mobile Bay, AL

Start Date: 2010-05-19

End Date: 2010-05-23

Equipment Used: Digital Camera, YSI 556, Grab Sampler

Information to be Derived: Hydrocarbon geochemistry, grain size, foraminiferal assemblages and trace metal geochemistry.

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: 13 stations (G01 - G13) were visited and grab samples were collected at each site. Salinity, LOI and stable isotope information will be calculated at each sample/station.

Notes: This field activity is being conducted in response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

**This notice is to remind Department of the Interior employees, contractors and volunteers of their ongoing legal obligation to preserve information related to the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill as required by the preservation notice issued May 4, 2010, by the Office of the Solicitor. The Preservation Notice requires the preservation of all documents, data, and artifacts that contain information related to the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill and any activities related to the oil spill response, recovery, and clean-up.
