Data Type(s): Electro-Magnetic: Gravity, Electro-Magnetic: Magnetics, Location-Elevation: Navigation, Seismics: Air Gun / Water Gun, Seismics: Boomer, Seismics: Sparker, Sonar: Single Beam

Scientific Purpose/Goals: FAY 025 was a geophysical cruise to collect airgun, minisparker, gravity and magnetic data on the Blake Plateau. Planned tasks included: fault survey at the eastern edge of the Blake Plateau; deep-water airgun line from north of the Blake outer ridge down to Deep Sea Drilling Site 391; 2-3 gravity lines on the southern part of the Blake Plateau; minisparker profile from GLOMAR CONCEPTION drill site 6004 up to CALDRILL site 5; marker buoy deployment off New Jersey; and gravity data between Woods Hole and the Blake Plateau.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Woods Hole, MA

End Port/Location: Woods Hole, MA

Start Date: 1976-09-21

End Date: 1976-10-10

Equipment Used: Seismic Engineering streamer, Teledyne single-channel 300-500J 40-tip minisparker, Marine magnetometer, Gravity meter (wh), Integrated Navigation System, Echosounder

Information to be Derived: Morphology;

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: The cruise included a detailed fault survey over the eastern edge of Blake Plateau; airgun line from north of Blake Outer Ridge, across ridge to DSDP #391; gravity lines on southern part of the plateau, passing over DSDP #390 on Blake Spur; minisparker line from GLOMAR CONCEPTION #6004 (FA 76027) to CALDRILL #5 (FA 65001); buoy deployment at GLOMAR CONCEPTION site off NJ; and gravity survey along CDP lines 12 and 13 (GULF SEAL FA 75023). Gravity: 5560 km (Woods Hole to Woods Hole, except briefly on Sep. 30, 1976); Airgun: 3310 km; Minisparker: 3310 km; Magnetometer: 3310 km. Airgun, minisparker and magnetometer operated simultaneously from 1600Z Sep. 24 to 0030Z Oct. 8, 1976.
