Data Type(s): Location-Elevation: Navigation, Seismics: Air Gun / Water Gun, Seismics: Multichannel
Scientific Purpose/Goals: Utilize common-depth-point (CDP), digital, and multichannel techniques to locate and map a monoclinal flexure of the Cap au Gres Fault, and demonstrate that the marine seismic system could be used for making relatively deep penetration seismic reflection surveys on shallow (less than 10 m in depth) inland waterways that have organic sediment floors.
Vehicle(s):
Start Port/Location: Venetian Harbor Marina, Portage des Sioux, MO
End Port/Location: Venetian Harbor Marina, Portage des Sioux, MO
Start Date: 1980-12-12
End Date: 1980-12-16
Equipment Used: Northstar 6000 LORAN-C, Multichannel seismics, Air gun
Information to be Derived:
Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: The survey was carried out between the mouth of the Missouri River and the power plant at Portage des Sioux. There were not any faults observed on any of the monitor records made during this survey. Penetration on the monitor records was in general limited to approximately 100 to 150 ms of two-way travel time. Strong side reflections from the river banks up to 1.0 s of two-way travel time were recorded on the monitor record. As of this writing, the multichannel digital data recorded on the magnetic tapes have not been processed.
