Data Type(s): Environmental Data: CTD, Environmental Data: Temperature, Imagery: Photo, Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sampling: Biology, Sampling: Chemistry, Sampling: Geology, Sonar: Single Beam, Time Series: Mooring (physical oceanography)

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Collect CTD and suspended matter samples and deploy two moorings in Lydonia Canyon. Collect surface grab samples near Lease Block 312 (for analysis of texture, trace metals, petroleum hydrocarbons, and benthos). Collect grab samples at four long-term stations for benthic seasonal and transport changes. Collect grab samples to map surficial sediment in Lydonia Canyon.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Woods Hole, MA

End Port/Location: Woods Hole, MA

Start Date: 1981-01-16

End Date: 1981-01-22

Equipment Used: Echosounder, XBT, CTD 19+ with OBS, PAR, DO, Chl, Niskin bottle, Van Veen grab sampler, Smith-MacIntyre grab, Camera- deep sea, Northstar 6000 LORAN-C, Bottom platform

Information to be Derived: Time series data; Samples and chemical analysis; Suspended sediment concentrations;

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Recovered buoys at GBK from Oct. 1980 OCEANUS 88 (FA 80030) cruise. Recovered Grassle tripod at GBQ from Oct. 1980 OCEANUS 88 cruise. Moorings deployed: 2 (#221 and 222 both recovered FA 81009 OCEANUS 95 Apr. 23 - May 6, 1981). Mooring recovered: 1 (#206 deployed FA 80030 OCEANUS 88 Oct. 23-31, 1980). XBTs: 13; CTDs: 18; Surface salinity samples: 28; Surface grab samples: 104.
