Other ID: BLM M-3; BTF M-3

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): Richard Rendigs

Affiliate Investigator(s): George Hampson - WHOI

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Sampling: Biology, Sampling: Geology, Imagery: Photo, Location-Elevation: Navigation

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Cruise was the third in a series of seasonal benthic sampling cruises performed as part of the Georges Bank Lease Sale No. 42 Environmental Monitoring Program. Major emphasis was to determine the extent of deposition and accumulation of potentially toxic materials as a result of oil drilling activities and any subsequent effects on the benthic biota.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Woods Hole, MA

End Port/Location: Woods Hole, MA

Start Date: 1982-02-10

End Date: 1982-02-28

Equipment Used: Grab sampler, Dredge, Trawl, Benthos model 372 camera and strobe, Northstar 6000 LORAN-C

Information to be Derived: Samples and chemical analysis;

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Sediment samples were collected for analysis of benthic infauna and epifauna, trace metal and hydrocarbon analysis, and CHN and sediment grain-size analyses (73); camera stations were occupied to record microtopography and visible macrofauna.
