Other ID: BS 87-1; Leg 1, Leg 2

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): S. Jeffress Williams

Affiliate Investigator(s): Shea Penland, John Suter - LGS

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Seismics: Sub Bottom Profiler, Location-Elevation: Navigation

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Collect 40-ft. long continuous vibracores at sites selected from high-resolution seismic profiles collected in a survey in June 1987. Interpretation of the cores and seismic profiles will be used to determine the stratigraphy and structure of the shallow sub-bottom of the region. Long-term purpose of program is to locate and identify potential offshore sand borrow areas for beach replenishment projects.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Pearlington, MS

End Port/Location: Pearlington, MS

Start Date: 1987-09-14

End Date: 1987-09-25

Equipment Used: ORE 140 transceiver/1036 transducer sub-bottom profiler, Loran-C

Information to be Derived:

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: 40-ft cores: 64; 20-ft cores: 13.
