Other ID: AST 96-1

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): Lawrence Poppe

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sonar: Sidescan, Seismics: Sub Bottom Profiler

Scientific Purpose/Goals: To conduct a 100-kHz sidescan sonar survey of Roanoke Point, New York, and Falkner Island and Long Sand Shoal, Connecticut, to determine textural distributions of surficial sediments, to relate distribution to active sedimentary processes and to delineate habitats and relate them to benthic communities; and to provide reconnaissance sidescan sonar data in areas not previously covered.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Woods Hole, MA

End Port/Location: Woods Hole, MA

Start Date: 1996-06-11

End Date: 1996-06-17

Equipment Used: SIS1000 Chirp Sonar, DGPS, SIS1000 Sidescan sonar

Information to be Derived: Habitat maps; Sea floor map;

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Sidescan Sonar: 299 km, 60 lines; Chirp sub-bottom echo sounder: 299 km, 60 lines.
