Other ID: IB G-1-01-GM

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): Kathryn Scanlon Catanach

Affiliate Investigator(s): F. Coleman and C. Koenig (Florida State Univ.)

Information Specialist(s): Kathryn Scanlon Catanach

Data Type(s): Imagery: Video, Sampling: Geology, Imagery: Photo, Location-Elevation: Navigation

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Sustainable Seas Expedition - multidisciplinary cruise with FSU, NOAA and National Geographic. USGS objective is sediment sampling to ground truth previously collected sidescan data and make observations of benthic habitats using Deep Worker one-person submarines with video cameras.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Pascagoula, MS

End Port/Location: Tampa, FL

Start Date: 2001-06-12

End Date: 2001-06-25

Equipment Used: Video camera - deep sea, Van Veen grab sampler, Digital camera, GPS (wh)

Information to be Derived:

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Sediment samples are being analyzed for texture and carbonate content in the USGS/Woods Hole sediment lab. Sediment samples were obtained mainly from Yellowtail Reef. Did not do intended ROV work due to operational problems. Sediment samples; Videos (with National Geographic).
