Start Date: 2002-01-01

End Date: 2002-01-01

Equipment Used: Push corer

Information to be Derived: Core 721-1: radiocarbon dates; biological census counts of benthic foraminifera, diatoms, and palynomorphs; geochemistry - sediment levels of anthropogenic metals and other elements

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: A suite of cores was collected in 2002 at the mouth of San Francisquito Creek in South San Francisco Bay to determine sediment depositional rates on the delta. One of those cores (721-1) was selected for radiocarbon, microbiological (pollen, diatom, and foraminifers), and geochemical analyses to reconstruct a depositional record in South San Francisco Bay over the last millennium.

Notes: Core 721-1 was taken by driving a metal core barrel by hand into the tidal mudflat at approximately 37.4583°N and 122.0961°W.
