View new CMGDS report form

Other ID: none

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): Mark Erik Hansen

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s): Nancy DeWitt

Data Type(s): Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sonar: Interferometric, Sonar: Single Beam

Scientific Purpose/Goals: The primary use of the data collected for this project was for the development of boundary conditions in numerical hydrodynamic modeling for establishing MFL in Southwest Florida. Therefore, the shallow water sonar swath interferometric system was selected to be best suited for fulfilling project requirements.

Vehicle(s): None

Start Port/Location: St. Petersburg, FL

End Port/Location: Flamingo Marina, Everglades National Park, FL

Start Date: 2004-01-20

End Date: 2004-03-17

Equipment Used: Marimatech Echosounder, Interferometric Bathymetry System, Ashtech Z-Xtreme DGPS, Choke Ring Antenna, TSS DMS-05 Motion Sensor

Information to be Derived: Interferometric swath and single-beam bathymetry (X,Y,Z) data. Products are ASCII text files of the sounding data and point shapefiles representing seafloor elevations.

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Number of soundings: single-beam 23,407; swath 2,226,397 in comma-delimited and Esri point shapefile formats.

Staff: Nancy DeWitt, Mark Erik Hansen

Notes: This dataset includes bathymetric data for Shark River from the mouth on the Gulf of Mexico inland approximately 17 kilometers (km) to Tarpon Bay. All of Trout Creek was surveyed.
