Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): Michael Bothner

Affiliate Investigator(s): Richard Reynolds - WRD-Denver

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sampling: Geology, Environmental Data: Turbidity

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Recover Honjo time-series traps and OBSes deployed early June 2006. Diver-collect cores using the slide hammer and water samples at sites in Hanalei Bay. Collect grab samples from the Hanalei River using kayaks and snorkling. Collect soil samples within the rivers watershed. Collect one sample of suspended matter from the river while it was at a modest flood stage. All samples were collected for analysis of 137Cs, 7Be, 210Pb, and magnetic properties.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Hanalei, Kauai, HI

End Port/Location: Hanalei, Kauai, HI

Start Date: 2006-09-06

End Date: 2006-09-15

Equipment Used: DGPS, Sediment traps, Optical Backscatter, Slide hammer corer

Information to be Derived: Samples and chemical analysis;

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Two time-series traps and about 6 tube traps recovered. 9 sediment cores collected and cut by Amy Draut. Bothner and Rich Reynolds collected upland sediment (soil) samples at 16 locations within the Hanalei watershed. Samples analyzed in USGS Menlo Park, Woods Hole, Denver and various other laboraties.
